Chickens in the garden…strike a pose…

Jun 13, 2009

Here are a few updated shots of the girls from this morning. They had another spaghetti eating frenzy so they're in a pretty good mood! No eggs yet, but surly Eunis should start laying any day now. With her nasty attitude she'd better start making herself useful quick! The big bully has started pecking all the other's tails to a nub. Not good. Also, I think I'll be building a bigger coop, possibly next weekend. I've decided I'd like a walk-in, which will also make daily care easier for those who have to babysit if we're away.

Einstein6-13 Einstein2

Einstein in all her crazy glory...she does like to pose for the camera.

Eunis6-13 Phyllis6-13

Mean, mean Eunis...she even looks mean in her pictures. And Phab Phyllis doin' her thang.

Scooter6-13

And my sweet little Scooter. This morning there were some drops of water on my arm from refilling their waterer...she actually drank them off my arm, all gentle like. It was adorable. Yeah, Sean doesn't get to eat her! Didn't manage to get a good shot of Pecker this morning..she's always freaked out.

I love your “girls” They are so pretty! We use to have a polish hen. I miss her.
Now we have 25 hens again. We got some babies this spring to replace the ones the hawks/raccoons/foxes killed. We have a lot of preditors here in the country!

I think Eunis is jealous that she doesn’t have pretty feathers on her head like Einstein and Phyllis!

When I was growing up on the farm, we raised chickens.  I remember that there were these little metal blinder things that you put on the chickens if they were pecking thier compatriots.  (I am not lying or putting you on)

Love these!
Phyllis is great—Eunis has the perfect name, I think. She’s v. Carol Burnett on Mama’s Family!

I really enjoy your blog (LOVE the chickens!)! It may not mean a whole lot but I gave you a Charming & Honest Award on my blog. Please stop by and check it out sometime!

Ha, thanks guys! Thanks Cheyenne! That’s so nice. Lorlee - I know what you’re talking about. I’ve yet to see what they actually look like, but they have been recommended to me. Of course I’m just envisioning Eunis in tiny sunglasses! lol

Yes, these girls really are a hoot and a half. They are going to be so happy in their new coop we’re building this weekend. The roof is going to be corrugated metal..who knew ha hard that would be to get, so I have to have it manufactured..wont’ be ready till next week. But hopefully the rest of the structure will be done this weekend. fancy shmancy….

Phab Phyllis looks much like a chicken breed I’ve seen in the Caucasus, but can’t figure out the name of.  The “hairdo” is a bit shorter and rounder/fuller.  I’ll have to keep searching…
