Plant Breeding for the Home Gardener: How to Create Unique Vegetables and Flowers
By Joseph Tychonievich
I’m a plant book addict. So even though I have spent plenty of professional time studying plant genetics, I was curious to see how this topic would be covered for the laymen home gardener. I couldn’t resist grabbing a copy at the book store the other day. Joseph has done a really good job at taking a huge topic (that can often put people to sleep) and making it easy to read, understand and apply in a home garden. The book has an easy flow and is a quick but fun read. For you home gardeners who have a budding interest in the topic of home plant breeding, but were justifiably intimidated by it, this is a great place to start. But I’m going to warn you: once you go down this rabbit hole, chances are you might get hooked and obsessed! So just go ahead and start cordoning off big sections of your yard and garden for row plantings and containers of your new creations!
