Chickens in the news…again…

Oct 8, 2009

Einstein_aug Yet another segment on chickens in the city ran on Channel 11 this week...all you chicken lovers can check it out:

Chickens on Channel 11

We carry the chicken tractor they showed in the segment at NHG, not to mention organic feeds, starters, scratch, straw, feeders, waterers and more, right here in Dallas. Our next Chicken Sale day is October 17th. Sale starts 10am with open Q&A.  We hold hen sales the third Saturday of each month.

Awesome!  I thought it was funny how she said “And they use some of them for food” as if it’s such a novel and wacky idea to eat the eggs your chickens lay.  I’m guessing they use ALL of their eggs for food, unless they’re just throwing the ones they can’t eat in the garbage.  The people I know with an excess of eggs give them away to family or neighbors to eat.

All in all it was a good piece, and good publicity for NHG and Dan Probst.

I know…lol…what the heck do they think people do with the eggs? lol. Eggs are the only animal protein I eat, so I probably eat more of them than the average person. They won’t go to waste in my house. Hence, I want to make sure my eggs come from happy healthy…spoiled…chickens! I’m getting a nice load of eggs these days in blue, green and white. I think 4 of the 5 are laying at this point with Phyllis being the hold out…I’ll post some egg photos in the next few days. I’m having trouble with the blue/green color translating well in photos.

I know! But unfortunately I’m headed out of town today and will miss the whole affair! Drat. I’d already made my travel plans before I found out the dates for the poultry show…well, if you go enjoy it for me!

In the videos you can hear me commenting on some of the birds.  One of the chickens laid an egg in her cage right as I was watching.  Oh, and the food item pictured is a “twisted yam”....a yam thinly sliced and fried (?) on the edges with brown sugar.  Delicious.  I didn’t dare try the fried butter!
